Thanks for visiting —
I’m Dan. I’m on a mission to help people feel better physically and mentally.
My weekly newsletter is a round up of useful and actionable tips I have learnt through the week. Sign up below if you’d like to join my community of readers.
Dr Dan Reardon MB ChB, BSc (Anatomy), MSc (Mental Health)
Medical doctor, fitness innovator, and health tech product maker
I’m an experienced medical doctor, personal fitness trainer, company founder, and early-to-mid-stage start up health product lead with an array of overlapping skills including understanding health behaviour, product design, and business model innovation — in the health, fitness, nutrition, and sports supplements space.
I try and stay focussed on problems that through innovation or contrarian thinking, have very simple solutions. As a result I continue to build companies, consult to projects, and maintain a medical/fitness practice.
My main skill in being able to understand what people need in order to improve their health, and what truly stands in their way — and this is where innovation resides.
Talk dates.
I’ll be giving a talk at various locations in the UK, beginning in the West Midlands, the title of which is “Understanding Mental Health To Better Understand Young People And You”. How do we remove the diagnostic lens and depathologise the experiences of youngsters (and ourselves) to better improve psychological wellbeing.

CURRENT
Digital Wellbeing Doctor
Through my consulting company Instedify Ltd, I work with individuals and families to reduce the emotional strain that digital technology brings into everyday life. Your emotions are not a condition or a disease, they are a lens to how you perceive your place in the world, and digital technologies can manipulate this perception — and this is where I help.
Covid-19 Emergency Response Doctor
As part of the UK governments Covid-19 emergency response, I was recalled into the National Health Service (NHS) by the General Medical Council (GMC) to work in Accident and Emergency. I am continuing to serve in this role for as long as the UK needs, covering busy evening and weekend shifts.
Medical Advisor Cambridge Weight Plan
The Cambridge Weight Plan is a highly structured diet that prescribes low calorie products around a strict eating plan with the goal of rapid weight loss, under the guidance of a coach, and often in clients with a number of co-morbidities. I my role as medical adviser, I assist CWP with complex medical clients who may require a different level of risk stratification and support — Testimonial
PAST
Co-founder, CEO, Medical Director and Chairman FitnessGenes
2013 to 2021 - I co-founded FitnessGenes with Dr. Stuart Grice, Dr. Samantha Decombel, and Mark Gilbert, from an initial idea in 2011. Since then we had gone on to raise over $10M of venture funding, building a patent pending platform that uses genetics to predict the most optimal ways to exercise, diet, take supplements, and follow general lifestyle related guidance, based on your DNA.
Science Editor Muscle & Fitness Magazine
2013 to 2014 - I started working with Muscle & Fitness Magazine in 2012 having had a number of meetings with then Managing Director Martin Cheifetz. Initially I started writing two spreads in every issue that related to fitness personalities and their training concepts, and also a column which elaborated on popular FitnessInventor topics. in 2013 I was made Science Editor, and had the opportunity to work with some of the industry greats, including then Senior Science Editor Dr. Jim Stoppani where we filmed a video series for the two books we co-authored, A Guide to High Intensity Interval Training, and A Guide to Sports Nutrition and Supplements.
Accident and Emergency Doctor
2008 to 2014 - I spent the bulk of my medical career working in A&E at various hospitals around the United Kingdom.
Co-founder FitnessInventor
2009 to 2013 - I co-founded a free fitness, nutrition, and supplements, questions and answers website with my friend and colleague, Mark Gilbert. We worked with our friend Peter Cooper to build a Ruby on Rails based membership site that had over 5000 questions asked and answered. In 2013 we merged FitnessInventor with PlayDNA to form FitnessGenes.
Surgical Doctor in Training
2004 to 2008 - My early medical training was focussed on surgery, but I ultimately decided I didn’t want to be a surgeon.
Founder of Fitness 4 Your Future Personal Training Studio
2001 to 2004 - At medical school I trained as a personal trainer, and opened my own personal training studio.
-
M.Sc. Mental Health Birmingham University
Graduated July 2021 - One of the best decisions I have made was to study for my masters degree in Mental Health, with a strong focus on Youth Mental Health. Bringing together a number of disciplines ranging from psychology, sociology, social policy, medicine, philosophy and education, it is a very sobering approach to understanding people.
M.B.Ch.B. University of Wales College of Medicine
Graduated 2004 - This degree prepared me well for a rewarding working life as a foundation doctor in the NHS and my career beyond. Over five years I acquired knowledge, clinical skills and a professional attitude within an integrated curriculum, that gave me the confidence to practice medicine.
B.Sc. (Intercalated) Human Anatomy Cardiff University
Graduated 2002 - This intercalated year provided me with a balance between classical anatomical studies and the modern understanding of cell and developmental biology, genetics and disease mechanisms. I was able to enhance research-related transferable skills, which benefited me both academically and in my clinical career.
